Radical Changes to the NHS
The government is planning a radical shake up in the NHS, abolishing Primary Care Trusts and Strategic Health Authorities and handing the burden of commissioning NHS care services to GP practices.
The new government’s ideas are contained in a white paper entitled:
"Equity and excellence: Liberating the NHS" a copy of which can be downloaded here.
For their part the GPs have cautioned against implementing such changes too fast, fearing a landscape of financial chaos during the transitional period. Surely these kinds of fundamental reform need to be brought in gradually?
